Q3: Do I have to have a "Built by ATI" graphics accelerator to use ATI's HDTV Component Video Adapter?

A3: Depends. "Built by ATI" graphics accelerators can use the HDTV Component Video Adapter as long as a supported Radeon™ Series of products are being used. For "Powered by ATI", please consult with the manufacturer.

Q4: What software is needed to use the HDTV Component Video Adapter?

A4: You can download the latest Catalyst drivers from ATI's web site, ATI Catalyst™ 3.2 or higher is required.

Q5: Will the HDTV Component Video Adapter work outside of North America?

A5: HDTV Component Video Adapter is for use in North American only. Future releases of component output support will enable use in the Japanese markets. There is no plan for European support for component output at this time.

Q6: What modes does the HDTV Component Video Adapter support?

A6: ATI's HDTV Component Video Adapter supports the standard analog component modes of 480i (interlaced), 480p (progressive), 720p and 1080i.

Q7: What modes can I watch DVDs in?

A7: DVD playback is supported in 480i and 480p modes due to Macrovision restrictions.

Q8: Does Component Output support multiple displays?

A8: Component Output is a single display feature and will not work simultaneously with TV Output (All-in-Wonder® cards) nor simultaneously with VGA monitors (non-TV enabled graphics boards) for Radeon™ 9800 Series and older, nor All-in-Wonder® 8500 Series. Other products are excepted.

Q9: Does ATI's component output support DOS?

A9: Component output display is not supported in DOS. When using the HDTV Component Video Adapter a display is only enabled once Windows is initiated; this may take several minutes.

Q10: What are the limitations of ATI's HDTV Component Video Adapter?

A10: Images are overscanned:
TVs overscan images, typically 5%, and this can result in part of the image being cut off the display. The amount of the image not seen will vary with each HDTV and between each timing chosen, for example more overscanning may be noticeable with 1080i than 480i. The effect is minimized with 720p, therefore, if your HDTV supports 720p, it is recommended to use this mode.

Q11: Which operating systems will the ATI HDTV Component Video Adapter work with?

A11:
  • Windows® XP
  • Windows® 2000

  • Windows® 98/SE*
*Note: Windows® 98/SE is not supported with All-in-Wonder® Radeon™ 8500/8500DV
