    Press Release - 2003

ATI's DTV Solutions Chosen By Hisense

ATI delivers end-to-end state-of-the art DTV technologies to the Chinese marketplace

    Wednesday March 19, 2003

MARKHAM, Ontario – ATI Technologies Inc. (TSX:ATY, NASDAQ:ATYT) announced today that Hisense Electric Co. Ltd. has chosen Xilleon™ 220 and NXT2004™ to power its line of consumer electronics products. Xilleon 220 is an advanced and highly integrated system-on-chip suitable for a range of digital devices including set-top boxes (STBs) and digital televisions (DTVs). NXT2004 VSB/QAM receiver provides superior reception performance in the presence of multipath, phase noise, impulse noise, adjacent and co-channel interference for both terrestrial and cable environments. Based in China, Hisense specializes in consumer electronics, household appliances and information technology.

Hisense is utilizing Xilleon 220 and NXT2004 to create ATSC (Advanced Television Systems Committee) TV and STB designs for the United States market. Hisense has plans to modify the design for the Chinese market when the DTV standard has been ratified.

“Hisense has selected Xilleon 220 for several reasons, including its unique ability to decode dual HD (high definition) and multiple SD (standard definition) signal transmissions, coupled with an integrated industry leading MIPS processor,” said Dr. Jianping Zhang, Director of DTV Institute, Hisense Electric Co. Ltd. “NXT2004 was the best choice to deliver state of the art digital reception in a small footprint with excellent integration.”

“ We’re proud to work with consumer electronics manufacturers such as Hisense to bring exciting products to market,” said Yujing Wei, Greater China manager, marketing and business development, DTV/Consumer Products Group, ATI Technologies Inc. “Xilleon 220 and NXT2004 are excellent choices for their highly integrated design to save cost, space, and power for consumer electronics manufactures. With ATI’s innovative DTV technologies Hisense will be able to bring cost-effective solutions to the marketplace. ”

Xilleon 220 integrates into a single chip all processor, graphics, video, audio, and I/O (input and output) capabilities needed in a set-top box or digital TV. Included are a 300 MHz MIPS® CPU (central processing unit), dual-HD capable MPEG decoder, audio decoder, dual display engine, 2D and 3D graphics engine, conditional access, transport demultiplexers, PCI (Peripheral Component Interconnect), USB (universal serial bus), and hard disk drive interfaces.

The NXT2004 VSB/QAM Demodulator is configurable to work in either the ATSC compliant 8 VSB mode for terrestrial broadcasting or in the ITU-J.83B/SCTE DVS-031 compliant 64 QAM or 256 QAM modes.

ATI Technologies will exhibit its DTV technologies on March 21-23 at China Cable Broadcasting Network 2003 at booth #3606 in Hall 3 of the China International Exhibition Center, Beijing, China.
